Approved Scheme of Road Transport Service of the Maharashtra
State Road Transport Corporation
Motor Vehicle Act, 1939
No.MVA/3173/30303-XII-A- In accordance with the provision
of section 68-D(3) of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1939,
the below mentioned scheme approved by the Government
of Maharashtra is hereby published in the official Gazette.
4] The undertaking will operate stage carriage and
contract carriage services in the entire area of the
state of Maharashtra and all routes and portions thereof
falling within the said area to the complete exclusion
of all their persons, except:-
(i) A state transport undertaking as defined under
section 68(A) (b) of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1939.
(ii) Holders of duty countersigned permits on Inter-state
routes save those falling under the second provision
to section 63(i) of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1939.
(iii) Holders of contract carriage permits for operation
of Motor Cabs.
(iv) Holders of contract carriage permits granted for
operation of air-conditioned vehicles only.
(v) Holders of contract carriage permits for operation
for vehicles owned by them exclusively for transportation
of persons employed by them or students or members of
their institutions from and to their residences and
respective places of work or study and for occasional
tours and excursions.
(vi) Holders of contract carriage permits for operation
wholly within the municipal limits of Greater Bombay
and cities of Poona, Solapur and Kolhapur where the
municipal authorities are operating road transport service.
(vii) Holders of contract carriage permits granted
to them exclusively for the daily transportation at
appointed hours and between specified terminals and
pick up points of only the persons employed by or studying
in establishments and institutions with which the said
permit holders have specific contract for the purpose.
5] The nature of the service proposed to be rendered
-Passengers transport service by stage carriages and
contract carriages.
6] The maximum number of vehicles which the undertaking
will ply at any one time under the scheme-6627 vehicles.
7] The maximum number of vehicles it will ply at one
time under the scheme and the minimum number of daily
vehicle trips-5925 vehicles,19300 trips plus such number
of contract trips, casual or otherwise, as the undertaking
is required to provide from time. The corporation shall
maintain 50 semi-luxury buses in addition to its existing
two semi-luxury buses for the exclusive operation as
contract carriages.
8] type or types of vehicles proposed to be used on
the services and approximate seating capacity-public
service vehicles other than motor cabs, single Decker,
seating capacity ranging from 19 seats to 55 seats per
vehicle excluding driver, according to the requirements
of the routes/trips.
9] Number of routes proposed to be run on each route-As
detailed under column 3 of the said Appendix' A' subject
to the condition that the minimum number of daily trips
to be operated on each route shall be the minimum number
required to be operated on that route under regular
permits on any day during the year 1st April 1972 to
31st March 1973.
10] Standard rate of fare proposed to be charged -
The rates of fares equal to or less than the maximum
that may be prescribed by the State Government and approved
by the Regional Transport Authorities under the provisions
of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1939.
11] The date from which the undertaking will operate-1st
January, 1974.

In clause (4) of the Approved Scheme of Road Transport
Service of the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation,
for sub-clause (iii) , the following shall be substituted,
namely:-"(iii) holder of contract carriage permits
for operation of Motor Cabs and Maxi Cabs."

1. (1) This scheme may be called the Approved scheme
of Road Transport Service of the Maharashtra state Road
Transport Corporation (Amendment) Scheme 1993.
(2) It shall come into force with effect from the
date of publication of this notification the official
Gazettes.
2. In clause (4) of the said scheme , for sub-clause
(vi) the following shall be substituted , namely:- (vi)
holders of contract carriage permits for operation wholly
within the municipal limits of all municipal corporation
where the Maharashtra state road transport corporation
and the municipal authorities are operating road transport
service.

Item No. 3 : Consideration of application
for Contract Carriage Permits in respect of Air-Conditioned
Mini/Omni-Buses for whole of Maharashtra State.
The state transport authority considered the policy
of granting contract carriage permits for the whole
of Maharashtra state in respect of Air-Conditioned mini/omni,
buses and decided that no restrictions need, for the
present ,be imposed on the total number of permits to
be granted , provided the public interest is clearly
served.
The state transport authority, further, decided to obtain
the information in a suitably prescribed pro-forma from
each applicant, and the request of those who have already
filled the proforma and those who may fill it up now
should be considered at a subsequent meeting.
